Hyundai Australia has recalled the 2008-09 Elantra to fix a problem with the driver’s airbag.
According to the company, the driver’s airbag inflator could rupture if the airbag deploys in an accident. If the inflator does rupture, metal fragments could fire towards occupants at high speed.
Alternatively, the airbag may under-inflate. Both problems create a risk of serious injury or death for occupants.

Hyundai has advised owners to stop driving their cars until the problem is fixed, and has contacted those with outstanding repairs by mail.
