The 2020 Toyota Yaris is available in five variants with pricing ranging from $15,290 for the Ascentmanual to $22,470before on-roads for the Yaris ZR.
The current Yaris is the third generation of the nameplate – the first-generation car was sold in Australia as the Echo. It represents almost 28 percent of sales in its segment, and leads the light car market.
The fourth-generation Yaris will arrive in Australia in May 2020, riding on the Toyota GA-B platform. Expect to see a hybrid drivetrain for the first time in Australia, allowing the Yaris to effectively replace the Prius C.
The 2020 Toyota Yaris Ascent is fitted with a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 63kW and 120Nm.
Higher grades of the Yaris comes with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 80kW and 141Nm.
Both engines can be mated with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.
The 2020 Toyota Yaris Ascent manual uses 5.8L/100km on the ADR combined city and highway cycle, while the SX manual is rated at 5.9L/100km.
The automatic versions of the 1.3- and 1.5-litre engines drink a claimed 6.4L/100km.
The 2020 Toyota Yaris measures 3945mm long, 1510mm tall and 1695mm wide, with a 2510mm wheelbase.
The Toyota Yaris has a five-star ANCAP safety rating, based on testing carried out in 2017.
The 2020 Yaris comes standard with seven airbags and a reversing camera.
The range-topping ZR has autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beam, and lane-departure warning as standard.
These safety features are optional as a package on the Ascent Sport and SX.
