Look out Mercedes-AMG E63 S, the 2021 BMW M5 is angry.
The updated super sedan has leaked a day ahead of its official reveal, with a new front end in keeping with the rest of the facelifted 5 Series range.
There are slimmer headlights and a more angular front bumper compared to the current model, along with a new set of gloss black alloy wheels.

The larger M5 has missed the large kidney grille expected to feature on the new M3 and M4, in keeping with its more grown up remit.
Given the gloss black trim on the grille, mirrors, and windows, the leaked car is likely a Competition model.
In Australia, only the more powerful, focused M5 Competition is offered in the current generation, a trend likely to continue when the updated car touches down.

Inside, the updated M5 will have the same OS7.0 infotainment system as the updated 5 Series, replacing the iDrive 6.0 system on offer in the current car.
Power in the current BMW M5 Competition comes from a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine making 460kW and 750Nm, sent to all four wheels through a switchable all-wheel drive system.
Although more power is usually a part of any BMW M update, the engine in the M5 Competition is used in more recent cars such as the X5 M and X6 M Competition, where its outputs are unchanged. We’d bank on the new M5 arriving with the same outputs as the outgoing model.

A more focused, more powerful M5 CS is expected to follow the updated M5 Competition with more grunt, a racier interior, and lightweight wheels.
