Audi Australia is recalling almost 800 examples of the new-generation Audi Q5 SUV to rectify a potential seatbelt problem.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the driver and/or front passenger seatbelt pre-tensioners may not operate as intended, resulting in increased seatbelt slack and reduced occupant restraint performance,” the company says in its recall notice.
“In the event of an accident, if the seatbelt pre-tensioner does not operate as intended, the occupant may not receive the full protection of the seatbelt system. This could increase the risk of injury or, in the case of a serious accident, increase the risk of death to vehicle occupants.”

It’s the first recall for the new-generation Q5, which was introduced to Australian showrooms last year. Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of the previous Q5 were recalled in early 2025 due to a potential issue with their high-voltage battery system.
Despite the smaller Q3 SUV being its most popular model last year, Audi Australia has sold more Q5s than any other vehicle so far in 2026, with an ‘e-hybrid’ PHEV joining the mild-hybrid petrol and performance V6 SQ5 launch models.
