GWM following Toyota’s playbook for electrification

Australia's best-selling plug-in hybrid in 2022, much like its best-selling electric vehicle, hailed from China: the MG HS.

The best selling plug-in hybrid for 2022 was the MG HS with over 1500 sales and a huge lead over the second-place Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.
The Europeans fought it out amongst themselves with Volvo (XC60, XC90, XC40), BMW (X3, X5, 3 Series) and Mercedes-Benz (GLC) finding a few hundred buyers each.
Despite the technology being touted as a stepping stone to full-electric vehicles, the total number of plug-in hybrids sold in 2022 was just 5,937, compared to 33,416 full battery electric vehicles.
The figures were also dwarfed by the substantial number of standard (non-plug-in) hybrid vehicles sold in 2022, which accounted to 81,673 – of which a whopping 72,814 belonged to Toyota.
Below is an interactive treemap of all electrified vehicles (Battery EV, PHEV, Hybrid, FCEV etc) sold in Australia:
