Cupra opens order books again for plug-in hybrid duo

Cupra’s plug-in hybrid Leon VZe and Formentor VZe are available to order once again.

Customers can order the Leon or Formentor PHEVs via the Cupra website, and those who receive an allocation should expect to see their vehicles arrive from the second half of this year.

Cupra initially offered just over 100 examples of the plug-in hybrids last year, which it says sold out shortly after their release.

It hasn’t specified how many of the PHEVs it will be importing.

The news follows confirmation from the Volkswagen Group brand earlier this month that it had secured an additional 200 units of the electric Born hatchback after selling out the initial 400-unit allocation.

Both the Leon VZe and Formentor VZe share the same 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, for total system outputs of 180kW of power and 400Nm of torque and 50km of range.

Both the Formentor and Leon VZe include:

• Wireless phone charging
• 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
• 12-inch infotainment system
  • Wired Android Auto and Wireless Apple Carplay
  • Satellite navigation
• Two front and two rear USB-C ports
• Keyless entry and start
• Three zone climate control
• Adaptive cruise control
• Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection
• Lane-keep assist
• Park assist
• Reversing camera
• Cloth sports bucket seats
• Tyre repair kit

Some additional inclusions on the Formentor VZe include:

• Towing pre-wire
• Mode 3 cable
• Rear spoiler

Cupra dropped prices earlier this year for the Leon VZe and VZx to align them with the flagship Born EV.

Pricing for the Leon VZe is $59,990 before on-road costs.
