Drive Against Depression announces first event in Adelaide

Australian-registered mental health charity Drive Against Depression is expanding into South Australia, announcing its first-ever Adelaide Autumn Drive Day to be held on Sunday, April 7.

Following the charity’s expansion across the eastern seaboard – including events in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane – the Adelaide Drive Against Depression (DAD) event will commence from McLaren Vale, then “take a stunning route through the historic Clarendon township before stopping at the autumnal splendour that is Stirling, to take in the fresh air, share stories and create meaningful connections”.

“[Participants will] also have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious Gelista ice cream, the artisan South Australian gelati makers who are supporting DAD’s purpose at this inaugural Adelaide Autumn Drive,” says the charity.

Also headlining the run sheet will be guest speakers Professor Nicholas Procter and Dr Kate Rhodes.

Professor Procter is the chair of mental health nursing at UniSA, and Australia’s national representative to the International Association for Suicide Prevention.

Dr Rhodes, meanwhile, is a UniSA lecturer with multiple nursing qualifications including mental health nursing, and has 27 years of experience working with mental health.

Both speakers “will inform on suicide prevention support, as well as safety planning and how to live with meaning and purpose”, DAD says.
