Waiting for Estate versions of the upcoming Mercedes-AMG C43 and C63 in Australia? Don’t hold your breath.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has doubled down on its no wagon rule for the C-Class when asked about prospects of the wagon-bodied AMG C43 and upcoming AMG C63.
“At this stage there are no plans to launch any variants of the C-Class Estate in Australia. Demand for our growing family of Mercedes-Benz SUV models continues to increase, while demand for Estate models is steadily decreasing,” said a spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz’s local divison.
“Of course, we are always listening to our customers and can evaluate and respond should the business case change significantly.”
Based on the above statement, it seems Mercedes-Benz Australia will look to satisfy existing wagon customers with the the next-generation GLC SUV, which arrives in Australia during the first half of next year.
Like the current model, the new GLC is essentially a jacked up C-Class Estate with chunkier bumpers, with strong links to its passenger car stablemate inside and out.
Those drawn to wagon cargo-carrying strengths should know the new GLC’s 600-litre boot is well ahead of the C-Class Estate’s 490L quote.
Also off the cards for our market is the C-Class All-Terrain, a crossover wagon variant of the C-Class similar in concept to the Audi A4 allroad. The brand’s local arm gave similar reasoning to the statement above.
