Being caught speeding is bad enough, but what if you also crashed your mate's car and were found to have your licence suspended twice?

A 19-year-old provisional driver from Sydney’s west has been hit with a third licence suspension after driving at more than double the speed limit before crashing his friend’s Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Around 9:30pm on Wednesday, September 18, Camden Highway Patrol officers detected the Golf GTI at 163km/h in a signposted 80km/h area of Bringelly Road.
The driver of the Golf allegedly approached an intersection at speed and understeered into a traffic island, not only deflating the driver’s side front tyre but also damaging its ‘carbon fibre’ front guards.

After allegedly continuing down the dead-end road without his lights on, the green P-plater was pulled over, producing a provisional P2 licence which had been suspended twice before.
The 19-year-old had received the previous suspensions for both speeding and accruing too many demerit points, which are capped at seven for provisional P2 licence holders.
Highway Patrol officers subsequently issued another on-the-spot licence suspension and charged the man with multiple offences, including driving in a manner dangerous to the public.
As the vehicle was not his, its number plates couldn’t be confiscated, though the driver’s friend who owned the car later arrived and police claim he was “visibly upset at the state of his pride and joy”.
Given the damage inflicted upon the Golf occurred while the driver was driving illegally, the owner’s insurance won’t be able to cover the expected repairs.
