Tesla rolling out new safety feature with latest software update

Tesla has starting pushing out a new software update in the US that automatically activates and flashes the hazard lights faster than usual after an airbag is deployed.

This software update is rolling out to all US-specification Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, as well as Model S and Model X vehicles from 2020 onwards.

It’s unclear if this new safety feature is already available on Australian-specification Tesla vehicles.

The Australian owner’s manual for the Model 3 and Model Y with the 2023.32 software show the hazard lights turn on after a collision when the airbags inflate, though it doesn’t specify if these feature the more rapid flashing pattern.

Tesla has also rolled out a ‘Dynamic Brake Lights’ feature over the last few years, including to Australian-specification vehicles last year.

This safety feature sees the brake lights flash quickly when a driver brakes forcefully over speeds of 50km/h.

If the car comes to a complete stop the hazard lights will flash until the driver presses the accelerator or manually press the hazard lights button.

Tesla continually rolls out software updates to its range of electric vehicles (EVs) that bring a wide array of new features. They also bring tweaks and updates to the car’s systems.

The US carmaker currently only offers the Model 3 and Model Y in Australia. The Model S and Model X isn’t sold in Australia as they are only manufactured in left-hand drive.
