Toyota HiAce drops V6 petrol, SOS call now standard

The Toyota HiAce van and related Granvia people mover will receive running changes from September, including the discontinuation of V6 petrol power for the van range and upgraded features across both line-ups.

Available from September, the revised HiAce and Granvia ranges will see the fitment of Toyota Connected Services as standard on all models.

This includes a 24/7 Emergency Call Centre function that relays the vehicle’s location in the event of a collision “that requires intervention” or if an airbag deploys.

The e-call function can also be triggered manually via a new SOS button inside the cabin.

Further to the new emergency feature, the HiAce picks up a new centre console box on all versions, replacing the old tray.

Commuter GL grades add an LED lamp inside said box for added visibility, as well as upgraded USB charging ports.

Inside the box there’s an A4-sized binder rack and a moveable partition that can be used as a cupholder. Front all-weather floor mats and an additional low-profile antenna round out the changes.

The 3.5-litre V6 petrol option is gone, with the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel the sole powertrain option from September. It produces 130kW of power and 450Nm of torque in vans fitted with the six-speed auto, or 420Nm with the six-speed manual in the HiAce LWB van.

In the HiAce Commuter bus, the turbo-diesel makes 120kW and 420Nm.

Toyota cites “overwhelming consumer preference” for the diesel as the reason for the petrol’s demise, while French Vanilla white is now the sole paint option.

The Granvia people mover, meanwhile picks up rear privacy glass and front carpet floor mats as standard equipment across the range, as well as an additional low-profile antenna and six USB-C outlets replacing the old USB-A ports.

Toyota has increased prices by $990 across the HiAce range to reflect the upcoming changes, while Granvia models are 2.0 per cent dearer.

Deliveries of the revised Toyota HiAce and Granvia models commence in September.
