Volvo recalls vehicles over fire risk

Volvo Car Australia is recalling previous generations of the V40, V40 Cross Country, S60, V60 and XC60 due to a cooling issue that poses a fire risk.

Update: 19/08/20 – A second recall has been issued, with 375 affected vehicles. We’ve included the links below.

“If the cooling system has to be refilled, air may become trapped in the cooling system, which might result in insufficient cooling of the engine components,” the Swedish brand says in its recall notice.

“Insufficient cooling may result in damage to engine components and may cause a fire in the engine bay. A fire in the engine bay increases the risk of an accident and injury or death to the vehicle occupants and other road users.”

• A total of 1409 vehicles affected, plus 375 vehicles have been listed in the second recall.

Parts are expected to become available around December, with Volvo Car Australia to contact affected owners in writing in the meantime.

“If owners notice any unusual smells, they are advised to stop safely and contact Volvo Roadside Assistance,” the company says.

“Once parts are available, Volvo will contact affected owners again, requesting that owners make an appointment to have the vehicle repaired.”
