Jeep is recalling 2609 examples of its 2014-17 KL Cherokee as an issue with the power transfer unit could cause vehicles to both lose power and not shift into Park.
“The differential gear splines inside the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) may fail. Wear on the PTU splines can cause a loss of power while the vehicle is moving and the loss of the Park function while stationary,” the company says in its recall notice.
“A loss of power or Park function increases the risk of an accident and serious injury or death to the vehicle occupants and other road users.”

If you own an affected Cherokee, you’ll need to take it to your nearest Jeep dealer for a free repair. If you have any further questions, call FCA Australia on 1300 133 079.
