Mazda CX-60 arrives with five-star ANCAP rating

The all-new 2023 Mazda CX-60 line-up has been awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Covering all petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, the Mazda CX-60 was tested against the safety authority’s 2020-2022 criteria by sister organisation Euro NCAP.

Mazda’s new premium-leaning SUV scored 91 per cent for adult occupant protection, 93 per cent for adult occupant protection, 89 per cent for vulnerable road user protection and 77 per cent for safety assist.

ANCAP noted high scores for all forward-moving AEB tests, side impact protection as well as the effectiveness of the CX-60’s standard front-centre airbag.

While the vehicle’s performance across most tests was good, ANCAP did note a couple of penalties for emergency lane keeping as well as protection of the driver’s chest and legs in the frontal offset test.

“The lane support system fitted to the Mazda CX-60 showed some areas of Good performance, although performance in the more advanced emergency lane keeping (ELK) scenarios was assessed as Marginal,” ANCAP said in its media release.

“In the frontal offset (MPDB) test, Good results were seen for the front passenger, however Adequate and Marginal performance was recorded for the chest and legs of the driver in this test scenario with penalties applied for potential knee injury risk for occupants of different sizes/statures, and incorrect knee airbag deployment.”

As noted earlier, ANCAP’s safety scoring applies to all 3.3-litre petrol, 3.3-litre diesel and 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid versions of the Mazda CX-60 sold in Australia and New Zealand.

All 2023 Mazda CX-60 models receive the following safety equipment:

• Front, side, curtain, far-side, and knee airbags
• Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)

  • Turn-across traffic
• Forward obstruction warning
• Blind-spot monitoring
• Vehicle exit warning
• Rear cross-traffic alert
• Lane-keep assist
• Adaptive cruise control
• Driver attention monitoring
• Surround-view camera
• Reversing camera
• Front and rear parking sensors
• Traffic sign recognition
• Tyre pressure monitoring

Features such as the see-through view in the surround-view camera, front cross-traffic alert, cruising and traffic support, and driver monitoring are available on the $2000 optional Vision Technology package, where they’re standard on the flagship Azami.
