Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA) is recalling 5931 examples of the Golf hatch and the Tiguan and Tayron SUVs to rectify a software issue which could impact the electric power steering system.
“Due to a software issue, the electric power steering system under certain driving conditions may become temporarily inoperable,” said VGA in its recall notice.
“Should this occur, steering will remain functional. However, the driver may experience a noticeable increase in steering effort, particularly when cornering.
“A sudden increase in steering effort could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

This is the second recall for the Tiguan since October 2025, when 1482 vehicles were recalled due to a software issue which could deactivate certain driver assistance systems.
A separate recall was issued in July 2025 for the 2018-2019 Tiguan Allspace – the predecessor to the Tayron – due to a fault with its curtain airbags.

The Golf was last recalled in January 2024, when it was among nearly 6000 vehicles – also including Passats and Arteons – affected by a manufacturing fault which could lead to braking issues.
Owners of affected vehicles can contact their preferred Volkswagen dealership to schedule an appointment as soon as possible to have the software update carried out, free of charge.
