    Mercedes-AMG axing multiple models due to tough new regulations – report

    Multiple four-cylinder models from Mercedes-AMG – but none of its V8s or sixes – will reportedly be axed as they won't meet new EU noise regulations.

    New European Union noise regulations will reportedly spell the end of several high-performance Mercedes-AMG models… and it’s not the ones you might think.

    German publication Elektroauto-News reports it has obtained an internal memo from Mercedes-Benz’s product management department – dated October 20, 2025 – that confirms several four-cylinder Mercedes-AMG models will be axed.

    No mention is made of any of the German performance sub-brand’s six- or eight-cylinder vehicles.

    The document reportedly confirms production of the Mercedes-AMG GLA35small SUV, theC43sports sedan,andtheGLC43 mid-size SUV will continue until the end of the third week of February 2026.

    The more powerful Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance sedan and GLC63 S E Performance SUV will reportedly be produced until the end of the third week of May 2026.

    The document reportedly notes the Mercedes-AMG GLA45 S is unaffected, and “orders can be accepted without restriction in accordance with the available quotas”.

    The end of production of these models would slash Mercedes-AMG’s range of four-cylinder models by more than half.

    Other four-cylinder Mercedes-AMGs not mentioned in the document comprise the recently launched Mercedes-AMG GT43 coupe and SL43 roadster sports cars, and the Mercedes-AMG A35 and A45 small cars at the end of their lifecycle.

    As to what will replace these axed vehicles, the document reportedly says: “We will inform you about possible successor products in due course.”

    “From July 1, 2026… the external noise regulation Phase 3 UN-R51.03 will come into force,” the document reportedly reads.

    “This will result in a reduction of the external noise limits.”

    While Mercedes-AMG wouldn’t comment on future product to Elektroauto-News, it did note it’ll be launching “the most extensive product offensive in its history in the coming years”.

    This includes the introduction of not only new high-performance EVs, but also a “next-generation, high-tech electrified V8”.

    The current GLA is at the end of its lifecycle, with a new-generation model spied testing ahead of an expected reveal in 2026. It’ll move to the new CLA’s MMA platform, along with the next-generation GLB and, reportedly, a replacement for the A-Class.

    The controversial C63 and GLC63 S E Performance models, meanwhile, are reportedly set to swap their four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrains for a six-cylinder mill.

    While packing more power and torque than their twin-turbo V8 predecessors, the four-cylinder S E Performance variants have faced weak demand as well as strong criticism for their excessive weight and the sound they produce.
