Volkswagen is recalling almost 6000 vehicles across its Golf, Passat and Arteon lines as leaking brake fluid could result in a vehicle fire.
“Due to a manufacturing issue, the heat shield between the brake master cylinder and the exhaust may have been incorrectly fitted,” the company says in its recall notice.
“As a result, a connection to the brake fluid reservoir could melt. If this occurs, brake fluid may leak on to a hot exhaust there which could lead to a vehicle fire.
“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and/or damage to property.”

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a Volkswagen dealership to have the vehicle inspected and rectified, free of charge.
If you have any further questions, you can contact Volkswagen Group Australia on 1800 504 076.
