Nissan Patrol V8 breaks its sales record

The Nissan Patrol ‘Y62’ series V8 set its all-time Australian sales record in March 2022, with 918 finding their way into customer hands.

That eclipses the previous monthly record set in September 2021 of 700 units. It also takes the annual Patrol tally to 1703 sales, up 94 per cent year-on-year.

Much of the Patrol’s recent growth has been assisted by supply headaches on the just-launched Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, its chief competitor. Toyota sold 844 LandCruiser wagons in March, some of which include the agricultural 70 Series.

That said, Nissan has also been struggling to find adequate supply, leading to wait lists of its own.

The Patrol wears sticker prices before on road costs starting at $82,160 and climbing to $95,115. However there are some low-mile used models in the classified going for $120,000 – a similar issue to that being faced by prospective LandCruiser buyers.

The timing of the Y62 Patrol’s record month is interesting, given its 5.6-litre V8’s ADR fuel use claim is 14.4 litres of petrol per 100km – at a time of circa-$2 per litre fuel prices.
