Tesla Model S and Model X recalled

Tesla is recalling its 2017-20 Model S liftback and Model X SUV due to an issue with the steering.

“Due to a recently changed software calibration issue, the Electronic Power Assist Steering system (EPAS) may not operate as intended,” the company says in its recall notice.

“This may result in a reduced or loss of power steering assist and could require greater steering effort from the driver particularly at low speeds.

“Upon experiencing reduced or lost power steering assist, an audio alert will trigger, and a visual alert will appear on the instrument cluster.

“A reduced or loss of power steering assist while driving increases the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Tesla says the issue has been resolved with firmware release 2022.36.5, which it will begin deploying to affected vehicles.

Owners can also make an appointment with an authorised Tesla dealer to have the free firmware update applied.
