BMW is recalling more than 16,000 X5 and X6 models due to the risk of a short-circuit and fire.
“The plug connection from the wiring harness to the blower controller may deteriorate over time. This may cause the plug-in contact to short circuit or overheat,” the company says in its recall notice.
“If the plug-contact short circuits or overheats, this may cause a fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident, serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

BMW is contacting all known owners.
If you own an affected vehicle, you can call the BMW Group Customer Interaction Centre on 1800 813 299 to organise a free inspection and repair.
