It’s been confirmed for Australia, teased and rendered, and now we have our first in-the-flesh sighting of BMW’s belated Audi RS4 Avant fighter.
As we expected, the first M3 wagon — sorry, Touring — will have flared wheel arches at both ends.
Combined with lowered suspension, beefed-up side sills, wide tyres, and this prototype’s black alloy wheels, the M3 Touring looks ready to pounce.
The tall double kidney grille present on the latest 4 Series coupe will be fitted to all M3 and M4 models.
As revealed in the official teaser image, the M4 wagon will have quad tailpipes and a prominent rear diffuser.
Under the bonnet the M3 sedan and wagon, as well as the two-door M4 variants, are expected to feature a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine.
Two configurations will be available globally, a standard 353kW version for the M3 and a 375kW variant for the Competition model.
The straight-six mill will be hooked up to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. It’s unclear if the M3 Touring will be offered in both rear- and all-wheel drive formats.
Australian availability has been confirmed, although launch timing has yet to announced.
