Hyundai i20 N and i30 N hot hatches to bow out with a bang

Hyundai Australia is planning a special send-off for its high-performance N hatchbacks, both of which are set to leave showrooms next year.

The current versions of the Hyundai i20 N and i30 N hot hatches will soon drive off into the sunset, but the Korean brand’s local arm plans to rage against the dying of the light by celebrating the pair in style.

Production of the i20 N has already ceased, and Australia is one of the few remaining markets to receive the larger Czech-built i30 N.

Nevertheless, Hyundai Australia plans to sell both models until at least the end of this year, after which they’ll leave showrooms to make way for a new generation of compact performance models.

In the interim, enthusiasts can expect limited-run special editions of both the i20 N and i30 N, with the former to arrive first.

“Both cars are still coming into the country. We’re still unloading them from boats and we’ll still see shipments arrive into the country. For i20 N through towards the end of the year, i30 N even longer,” Hyundai Australia product development manager Tim Rodgers told CarExpert.

“But when we do get to the tail-end of each of these cars, we want to be able to see them off with a bang.

“We’re cooking up some stuff… exciting stuff for fans of N, that’s for sure.

“We’re working on that and you’ll hear more in regards to what we’re going to do for i20 N very soon, to send the car off with a deserving finale, for the time being. But it’s not goodbye, it’s just goodbye for now.”

Mr Rodgers’ final quip aligns with reports that a new i20 N is currently in development, with a hybrid powertrain set to power the next-generation version of Hyundai’s smallest hot hatch, according to Car.

In August 2025, CarExpert published spy photos of the next i20 testing in Spain, covered in heavy camouflage.

A successor to the larger i30 N is also being developed ahead of a likely 2027 global reveal. It’s expected to be hybridised, much like the next-generation i20 N, with Autocar speculating it could employ an uprated version of an existing electrified powertrain or even a new petrol engine entirely.

It was the i30 N that first launched Hyundai’s N performance sub-brand back in 2017. Arriving here one year later, the model has since amassed 10,874 sales in Australia to the end of March 2026, making it the best-selling N product ahead of the i30 Sedan N and i20 N. Total N sales in Australia recently surpassed 21,000 units.

In its 2030 product roadmap announced last year, Hyundai confirmed it was expanding the N lineup to seven models including its first hybrid offering, in addition to its current petrol and electric models (Ioniq 5 N, Ioniq 6 N).
