Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand Zeekr is slashing the cost of entry to its 009 people mover lineup, introducing a new front-wheel drive base model.

The Zeekr 009 7-Seat FWD is priced at $115,900 before on-road costs, or $20,000 less than its pre-existing all-wheel drive counterpart. It’s now available to order.

It’s still, however, more expensive than the Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX LWB ($109,990 before on-roads) and LDV MIFA 9 Executive ($115,000 before on-roads).

While it loses all-paw traction and features a less powerful 250kW/373Nm single-motor powertrain than its dual-motor all-wheel drive counterpart, it has the longest electric range of the 009 lineup thanks to its shared 116kWh battery pack.

Zeekr advertises a range figure of 604km on the WLTP cycle, compared with 582km in all-wheel drive variants. That’s more than its rivals from LDV and Volkswagen.

    Max DC charge rate150kW

The 009 FWD is considerably slower to 100km/h at 7.9 seconds, compared with 4.5 seconds – though that’s still a decent acceleration time for a people mover of this size.

It may be down on power, but Zeekr says the new entry-level 009 has all of the same luxury features as its more expensive showroom-mates.

However, it’s available only in Phantom Black or Crystal White exterior paint finishes – the Grey Purple and Mineral Green options are exclusive to all-wheel drive variants.

It also drops down from 20- to 19-inch alloy wheels.

Specification highlights of the Zeekr 009 FWD:

    • Dual fixed glass roof panels with power sunshades
    • 7-seat (2+2+3) configuration
    • Nappa leather upholstery in Stone Black
    • Ventilated front passenger seat
    • Ventilated, massaging second-row seats with memory
    • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
    • 15.05-inch touchscreen infotainment system
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
    • 35.95-inch augmented reality head-up display
    • 17-inch 3K OLED rear-seat entertainment screen
    • 30-speaker 3000W Yamaha sound system
    • Tri-zone climate control
    • Sentry, Child, Pet, Camp, Incognito and Stress Relief modes
    • 50W wireless phone charger
    • 8.6L refrigerator with cooling, heating

Zeekr says Australia “remains a priority market” and it’s “accelerating deliveries”. Additionally, it guarantees “no model year changes for at least the next 12-18 months”.
