The Ford Transit Custom has been named Australia’s best van in the inaugural 2025 CarExpert Choice Awards.
It beat out two finalists: the Hyundai Staria Load and Toyota HiAce.
The Transit Custom does what a van needs to do: carry a lot of stuff. There’s a spacious load bay, particularly in long-wheelbase guise, with LED load bay lighting and plenty of tie-down points. There are also different door options on offer.

But this is far from a penalty box to drive, with excellent steering, comfortable ride quality, and a smooth, torquey powertrain.
The cabin also features comfortable seats, a thoroughly modern infotainment system, plenty of sound-deadening and top-notch safety systems.
While the current, second-generation Transit Custom was launched in Australia late last year exclusively with diesel power, Ford is rolling out plug-in hybrid and electric versions later this year – something its Hyundai and Toyota rivals can’t match.
