    5. NEW Ford Ranger Super Duty: This BLEW me away… 4500kg (10,000lbs) towing, V6 engine

Speaking of hyped utes, our walkaround video of the new Ford Ranger Super Duty attracted more than 884,000 viewers after it was published on April 4.

Powered by a diesel V6, the Super Duty formula takes the standard Ranger and beefs it up in just about every way. Upgraded towing and payload capacities are one thing, but everything from new axles, wheels and tyres to improved underbody protection shows that Ford is serious about building a ute that’s ready for work.

Paul agreed too, and as was the case with the HiLux video below, you were drawn to this video despite it lacking driving impressions and even pricing.

    Paul’s verdict:

“Should I buy one? I’m very tempted. It’s a very good-looking vehicle. Not that I’ll ever tow 4.5 tonnes… I think the specs are really quite strong for what is going to be a vehicle that competes with much bigger vehicles outside of its segment as well.”

    4. MG Cyberster vs Ferrari 812 Competizione DRAG RACE! V12 vs electric

Our ongoing drag race series chugged along nicely this year, but among the countless instalments featuring wild supercars and modified specials racing side by side, your favourite was our video pitching the Ferrari 812 Competizione against the MG Cyberster.

With more than 920,000 views amassed since it was published on March 7, the drag race was one of the more unexpected ones so far. The V12 Ferrari follows the classic Italian supercar formula, packing wild performance and a glorious soundtrack to create a truly special – and very expensive – car.

In the other lane was the MG Cyberster, a unique Chinese electric roadster with a bootload of torque for just a fraction of the price of the Ferrari. The result? One of the closest races we’ve seen.

    Paul’s verdict:

“That was way closer than I thought it was going to be. I am genuinely surprised at how well this did up against the Ferrari.”

    3. ALL NEW Toyota HiLux detailed walkaround review… have they done enough?

2025 brought a lot of hype as Toyota geared up to launch its new-generation HiLux. That was reflected on YouTube, where more than 940,000 of you flocked to watch Paul break down the new ute.

That’s despite the video only going live on November 10, showing just how immensely popular the HiLux is, and how important it is to Toyota as a global brand. And that was even before we were allowed to tell you how it drives, with our out first review only being published later in the month.

Unfortunately, our overall impressions were mixed, because the new HiLux is essentially a re-skin of the model it replaces, carrying over the same cab and engine alongside a new interior and revised front and rear styling.

    Paul’s verdict:

“My honest opinion? I really don’t feel like they’ve done anywhere near enough with this car. It does feel like Toyota just hasn’t really put in a lot of effort here; it feels more like a facelift than it does a new car, which is fine, but the previous-generation car is 10 years old or so… it doesn’t feel like that big enough of a step forward.”

    2. How China won: TOP 20 CRAZIEST cars at the Shanghai motor show

Paul and Sean ventured to China for the 2025 Shanghai motor show in April, and our video capturing the event has since racked up more than 1.3 million views.

Published on April 25, the video is a detailed walk-through of what is now one of the world’s biggest automotive expos. The brands in attendance spared no expense this year either, showing off crazy new concept cars, big new engines, and models that will soon arrive on the market.

GWM showed off a brand-new twin-turbo V8, Nissan had its new Frontier plug-in hybrid ute on display, BYD flaunted several cars from its multiple brands, and even other Western brands like Ford, Toyota, Lexus, and Mazda were there to exhibit their latest and greatest (often China-specific) models.

    Paul’s verdict:

“I’ve been covering motor shows for like 15 years, and this is not only the busiest motor show I’ve ever seen in times when motor shows are declining… this is just a hub of technology, a hub of new features, a hub of flying cars as well. It just shows you that the Chinese are coming, and in a big way.”

    1. NEW Best SUVs off-road: Top 16 medium SUVs compared – some fail our tests!

The long-awaited revival of our mid-size SUV mega test was your favourite video for the year, amassing nearly 2.5 million views in just four months.

No fewer than 16 of Australia’s top-selling medium SUVs were put to the test in off-road conditions that intentionally put them well out of their comfort zone. This was intended to show which of these all-wheel drive models was the most capable, giving you the peace of mind of knowing which is up to the task if you ever need to head off-road.

The results were mixed: some models that performed well in our previous mega test disappointed, while others blew the competition away unexpectedly. It’s all well documented in the nearly 1.5-hour long video, which was uploaded on August 8.

Aside from CarExpert’s regular video crew, this video also involved several other members of our team behind the scenes, including editorial team members Josh Nevett and Max Davies.

    Paul’s verdict:

“I need to give a massive thank you to the video guys, social media guys, and the other editorial team that we had here helping… it is absolutely freezing out here. The Forester went from being the most capable off-road mid-size SUVs to now being one of the least capable… and the Hyundai Tucson absolutely killed it on each of our tests.”
