Ford is recalling its Transit Custom cargo van and its recently launched Tourneo people mover counterpart to fix a defective airbag inflator.
“Due to a manufacturing issue, the passenger airbag inflator may rupture in the event of airbag deployment,” the company says in its recall notice.
“In the event of an airbag inflator rupture, compressed gas and metal fragments may be propelled through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants, or damage to the airbag cushion or complete loss of airbag functionality may occur, causing serious injury or death.”
