MG Cyberster could be coming to Australia

Could the electric MG Cyberster sports car be coming Down Under?

The door is officially open, with MG today confirming its new roadster will be built in right-hand drive.

“We’re excited to confirm that the Cyberster electric sportster will be offered in both left- and right-hand drive configuration,” an MG Australia spokesperson said.

“As part of our Electric For Everyone strategy, MG Australia will now examine the Cyberster’s potential for the Australian and New Zealand markets.”

The Cybertster has an electric drivetrain with a 0-100km/h time of less than three seconds, and a driving range of more than 800km.

While the two-seat roadster is a clear call back to the good old days, the details are more aggressive with heavily sculpted sides, protruding splitters and side skirts, and a large rear wing and diffuser.

The concept features “hacker blade” alloy wheels, a ground-hugging stance, and an intricate lower bumper design.

Although MG vehicles are currently produced in China, Thailand, or India, the concept was developed at the firm’s design studio in London.

Up front, the Cyberster has round “Magic Eye” headlights that open up when switched on, acting as a pedestrian-friendly take on classic pop-up headlights.

MG currently offers the cheapest electric car in Australia, the ZS EV. It’s priced from $43,990 drive-away, undercutting the Hyundai Ioniq and Nissan Leaf.

The company also offers the mid-sized HS PHEV, which goes head-to-head with the Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid.
