Ever wondered where cars come from and perhaps how that has changed over the years?

We have compiled all the available data to show a historical representation of where cars that we buy – since 2005, when country of origin data was made available – come from.

The first graph shows a cumulative representation of where cars come from, which shows where local manufacturing was not too long ago and how quickly the market has changed since the last cars rolled off local production lines.

    Press play below.

2019 was the last year on record that new vehicles sold in Australia were marked as being made in Australia, with 45 Holdens being the last on record (even if production of these ended earlier).

As for what the future entails, the table below which shows a year-by-year representation of country of origin and gives a very solid predictor of where our vehicles are increasingly going to come from (hint, it’s China).
