2021 SsangYong Rexton coming in Q2 2021

SsangYong’s seven-seat alternative to the Isuzu MU-X is getting a new look for 2021.

Images published onKolesa.ru reveal the ute-based, seven-seat SsangYong Rexton will get a sharp new look to help it take on the Isuzu MU-X, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

SsangYong Australia has confirmed the 2021 Rexton will launch in left-hand drive first before touching down locally in the second quarter of next year.

Sales of the Rexton, which is based on the same chassis as the Musso dual-cab ute, have been slow since launch. SsangYong has this year sold 196 examples, behind the Haval H9 (240 sales) and LDV D90 (408 sales).

The 2021 update will bring a more aggressive new grille and revised headlights, along with a new tail light signature designed to help the Rexton stand out.

Mechanical changes haven’t been detailed, although SsangYong says there will be tweaks.

Currently, the Rexton is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with 133kW of power and 420Nm of torque.

Pricing for the Rexton currently kicks off at $39,990 drive-away for the two-wheel drive petrol, and extends to $52,990 drive-away for the range-topping, diesel-powered Ultimate.

The updated model will go head-to-head with a facelifted, more powerful Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Everest, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and the all-new Isuzu MU-X.

It’s also priced to compete with the Chinese-built LDV D90 and Haval H9.
