Hyundai’s original Kona Electric has come in for a nationwide product safety recall due to the potential for a short circuit which could lead to a vehicle fire.

“A software issue in the Battery Management System (BMS) may cause an electrical short circuit while charging or parked leading to a vehicle fire,” said Hyundai in its recall notice.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”
